I develop work through a combination of cross-disciplinary theory and exploratory movement; ideas are generated, clarified, and deconstructed in both the library and the studio. At the same time, I take the idea of studio-based research into the performance space; because my work often incorporates audience design, it is critical to use performance as studio time. Every audience brings fresh information to my research. By working cross-disciplinarily, researching and practicing through non-dance methods, I am reviving my perspective on my home form of contemporary dance. As my vision changes, I look for moments in which an art form shows how it is unique – in result or form or process.
